Four Easy-to-Play Games That Grandparents and Teens Both Love
You want your mom and dad to find common ground with your teens. You often have your teens with you when you go visit, but there’s little for them to do. They stay on their phones or tablets, which makes your parents feel ignored. Here are some games that teenagers love and that many elderly adults also truly enjoy.
Apples to Apples
Apples to Apples is a card game where players use the noun cards in their hand to answer the adjective card in play. The game is played in rounds with each player taking a turn as the judge. Gameplay starts when the judge flips over the adjective card. The players then look at the noun cards in their hand and decide the best response. Say the adjective card is “smelly.” Players may choose things like “dog,” “rotten fish,” or “shoes.” The judge then decides the best response and a new round begins.
Ticket to Ride
Ticket to Ride is a strategy game that’s also based a bit on luck. Your goal is to form connections between cities by building train routes. Other players may block your path, so you need to have alternate paths in mind. Shorter routes are usually easier to finish, but they’re worth fewer points. The winner at the end has the most points.
Wits & Wagers
Wits & Wagers doesn’t require teens or seniors to know trivia. The key to winning is really based on luck. Players listen to a question and give their best guess. The person closest to the answer wins. Questions are usually pretty abstract and ask things like how much does the heaviest sumo wrestler in the world weigh?
Would You Rather
In Would You Rather, teams work together to present their case on which of two options is best. Predicting the other team’s pick is how you work your way around the board. The situations are usually difficult and include things like having to decide between running 20 miles when the temperature is 68 degrees or running 8 miles when it’s 100 degrees.
When you and your teens cannot visit, your mom and dad can enjoy these games together or with their caregiver joining in. Hiring a home care professional ensures your parents have everything they need to age at home. A caregiver can drive them to stores and restaurants, help them prepare meals, or
